The seeker is he who is in search of himself
Give up all questions except one: ‘Who am I’. After all, the only fact you are sure of is that you are. The ‘I am’ is certain. The ‘I am this’ is not. Struggle to find out what you are in reality.
To know what you are, you must first investigate and know what you are not.
Discover all that you are not — body, feelings, thoughts, time, space, this or that — nothing, concrete or abstract, which you perceive can be you. The very act of perceiving shows that you are not what you perceive.
The clearer you understand on the level of mind you can be described in negative terms only, the quicker will you come to the end of your search and realize that you are the limitless being.
[…]The life force and the mind are operating of their own accord, but the mind will tempt you to believe that it is „you“. Therefore understand always that you are the timeless spaceless witness. And even if the mind tells you that you are the one who is acting, don’t believe the mind. Vergiss‘ alle Fragen außer einer: „Wer bin ich“. Immerhin ist die einzige Tatsache, deren du dir sicher sein kannst, dass du existierst. Das „ich bin“ ist sicher. Das „ich bin dieses“ nicht. Kämpfe darum, herauszufinden, wer du wirklich bist.
Um zu wissen, was du bist, musst du erforschen und wissen, was du nicht bist.
Entdecke alles, was du nicht bist – Körper, Gefühle, Gedanken, Zeit, Raum, Dieses und Jenes. Nichts Konkretes oder Abstraktes, das du wahrnimmst, kannst du sein.
Je klarer du mit dem Verstand verstehst, dass du nur in negativen Begriffen beschrieben werden kannst, um so schneller wirst du das Ende deiner Sucher erreichen und verstehen, dass du ein grenzenloses Wesen bist.
[…]Die Lebenskraft und der Verstand operieren nach eigenen Gesetzen, aber der Verstand wird dich zum Glauben verleiten, dass er „du“ ist. Deshalb bedenke immer, dass du ein zeitloser, raumloser Beobachter bist. Und selbst wenn der Verstand dir sagt, dass du derjenige bist, der handelt, glaube ihm nicht. Der Apparat – Verstand, Körper – der funktioniert, überdeckt dein origninäres Wesen, aber du bist nicht dieser Apparat.
